As for me, being an American is probably the luckiest part of my life. I look at different places around the world, and am always consumed with the feeling of how much we take for granted what we have here in the United States. We have security, freedom, money, and find me a grocery store that is ever lacking with as much to consume as we wish. If we dial 911 we have help just a moment away. I am proud to be an American, as the song goes. But along with this pride I want others to experience it as well. I wish people throughout the world could experience what it is like to have what we have here in America.
I think it is our duty as Americans, as a very fortunate group of people during this time in history, to provide as much help and support to our neighbors throughout the world. You never know when the tides of fortune may turn, and we one day end up as “one of those other countries”. Rome didn’t last forever.
Treat others as we want to be treated. Show respect to all. We are all in this thing together, why not make it work?

I would have to agree. Many American citizens do take for granted even the little things available in the United States. There are many opportunities and services available for everyone to live comfortably... if you are willing to fill out all the paper work the government will even tell you how to live. For those not understanding what I am saying, I am meaning the military lifestyle. I have many friends and family in the National Guard. Some believe there should be no military. What they do not realize is, these people give up their lives so that everyone else can live their comfortable lives. Our system of government may not be the best, but it works.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree! I think we are all very lucky to live in America and that we do take it for granted sometimes. I also agree that we have a responsibility to help others. Now, that's when I have to stop, because I don't know how far we should go when helping people in other countries.
ReplyDeleteGREAT BLOG!
I also agree with the comment about how as American citizens we often take things for granted. I have gone on several missions trips to Mexico, and their standards of living are so much lower than ours yet they are so much more grateful than us. They are thankful for the litle things in life such as family and being alive. I think that we are so lucky to be American citizens and I wouldn't change it for anything; however we do have a lot to learn from other cultures.
ReplyDeleteFirst off i really like the picture! Secondly You said, you "think it is our duty as Americans, as a very fortunate group of people during this time in history, to provide as much help and support to our neighbors throughout the world." I like this! I think we slack in this. We are so concerned with our own lives we get distracted helping others!
ReplyDeleteGood job on the post and I like the picture, I agree with what you said about how lucky we are to have all of the things we have to us available. Also, mentioning Rome is a good example of what could eventually happen to us if we aren't careful with the great responsibility of freedom we have been given.
ReplyDeleteMichael, I really liked your note about, "treating others how we want to be treated", and were all in this thing together. I think were better to learn how to live with each other rather than destroy one another. I share your appreciation for the privilege of living in this country. I really like your notes in recognizing this nation as our responsibility, and we have the power to create within this country for the better or the worse, this nation is only as much as we take part of it and share the responsibility of its actions. Nice pic!
